States from Massachusetts to Virginia have made significant commitments to developing offshore wind power, which could mean new fishing opportunities for recreational saltwater anglers. This proven technology has been generating clean energy elsewhere in the world for nearly three decades, and holds great potential for the U.S. to produce electricity right where it is most needed, reduce pollution that is harming fish, and create good-paying jobs. Offshore wind turbines also create artificial reef structure that can be a boon to fish habitat, which is already happening at the country’s first ever offshore turbines off of Block Island, Rhode Island.
Anglers for Offshore Wind Power is a project of the National Wildlife Federation with input from our friends in the recreational fishing community to provide anglers like you with the information and resources you need to play a part in ensuring this energy source is responsibly developed in the coming years.
